Tami, short skirt, blouse cut down to there…big hair
and Cynthia, who looks at the world down her nose have an instant dislike
for each other. Next arrives nearly perfect Aja (according to Susan), witty,
trendy and popular and Susan, Aja’s friend who is fighting the feminist
fight on the wrong battlefield with no ammunition; long-time friends…but
for how long? Complete the ensemble with Nicole…the voice of
reason, and not a red plaid jacket-wearing lesbian, either.
Throughout the night they discover unexpected things about each
other, some are intriguing revelations, while others are scandalous
betrayals. When they emerge from the
ordeal in the morning, they will have learned more about themselves, wrestling
with an array of topics from sexual abuse and mothers to tampons, orgasms and
their most embarrassing moments. While it is a comedy, this character driven
play is not without its poignant moments of anguish and emotional discoveries.
When life runs out of toilet paper, sometimes you just
have to shake the dew from the lily.
*There is also a
version of this with vignettes, including seven small parts that can be
doubled...4/m and 3/f.
WHAT THEY SAID…
Shaking the
Dew from the Lilies has got to be the most provocative, explicit, yet
fascinating
and funny play ever to be staged in
It may be an eye-opener to men, who
cannot know how women, on a personal comfort level,
talk between themselves. Above all, it
was a real-life comedy with serious undertones. Many will
learn from absorbing and thinking a bit
about the impact early life experiences have on current
behaviour.

This play is emotionally compelling and really, really
funny. The things that are addressed are honest.
I've never seen any of this material on stage before.
