Coming off its excellent run at the IMPACT.11 Festival in September, Flush Ink Productions is thrilled to have

'The Fear Project' part of UnHinged - A Festival of Edgy Urban Theatre

The piece investigates a series of fears that many women identify with in a western society, and asks the question, "How does fear inhibit our ability to connect?" Social expectations of physical attractiveness, heterosexuality, and motherhood are so prevalent in a culture wrought with conservative ideology; it is only when the fear of adhering to these social expectations is identified within and later embraced, that we can truly feel what it means to be free.

Featuring a cast of six women, 'The Fear Project' is at times very real,

at others surreal – but above all, call it theatre for social change.Tickets are $15 general admission.

Jessalyn Broadfoot – Jessalyn is a recent graduate with an Honours Arts degree in Drama and Speech Communication at the University of Waterloo. Some credits include Body 13 (The MT Space), Differ/End: The Caledonia Project (UW Drama), and Asphalt Jungle Shorts (Flush Ink Productions). The further life travels, the more Jess learns about her body, and its strengths and vulnerabilities. Her theatrical interests stir in making meaning through physical storytelling. She thanks her legs for moving, her belly for breathing deep, and her eyes for crying. Jess is fearful of fear and hungry for it, wondering how acknowledging fear in her/this work can affect our bigger learning of the world.

Krista Hovsepian -- A Waterloo native, and winner of the KW Arts Award: Leading Edge Category, Krista holds her B.F.A. in Image Arts from Ryerson University. She currently splits her time between Toronto, where she works regularly as an actor and photographer, and Germany, where she is working towards obtaining her M.A. in Visual & Media Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin. Recent Theatrical Credits: The Demonstrator (Toronto Fringe), Hollywood Arms (ETC), What’sinaline (Flush Ink Productions). Film: The Chameleon (Fearless Entertainment), Out of the Blue (Waterfowl Producktions). She is currently in the midst of getting numerous creative projects off the ground and is thrilled beyond belief to be working with such a brilliant artistic team as part of The Fear Project!

Jewels Krauss -- Throughout her travels, Jewels was blessed to have met many different people from various backgrounds and was able to observe from a distance how fear has been a part of every person’s life she encountered. To create a play around that particular emotion, exploring why and how fear influences, shapes, and, at times, seems like our only reality, has therefore been a thrilling, humbling, and also challenging experience for Jewels. Through dealing with this emotion face-to-face, body-to-body, breath-to-breath, Jewels has realized that our lives naturally come with all kinds of emotions. But it is when we allow them all in and embrace them all, that we can truly say: we are alive.

Janice Lee – Janice is a Kitchener-Waterloo-based actor, musician, poet, and community organizer.  Some of her favourite previous projects include working with photographer Girl Crimson for her Radical Bodies project, choreographing and playing Liz Harlowe in Female Hysteria: A Burlesque Musical Comedy (RainDance Theatre), and co-writing and directing an original musical called Rooted (RainDance Theatre). Janice is also an organizer of the KW Poetry Slam, and a member of the political doo-wop sugar-folk band The Tra La Las.

Steph-Marie Szenasi – Steph-Marie is a creator, activist, and student at the University of Guelph, seeking a degree in Environmental Governance. She strongly believes that theatre can be used as a tool for positive social change, and is excited to be a part of The Fear Project. In her spare time, she enjoys sewing, gardening, and painting.

Kalene Ticknor – Kalene is a dancer and dance instructor from Kitchener-Waterloo, specializing in modern dance. She received her professional training in Toronto before returning to her hometown, where she currently teaches full-time at the Carousel Dance Centre. Kalene has immensely enjoyed working on The Fear Project, as it has caused her to confront and accept a few of her own fears. She hopes you come out of our experience with a few new thoughts about fear yourself.
